Most companies in construction tech name themselves after things that sound solid. Strong. Engineered. We named ourselves after an insect.
There's a reason for that. Two reasons, actually.
If you've worked with BIM, you already know this tension. A model is full of geometrical objects — panels, beams, modules — each one precisely defined. But the moment those objects leave the screen and enter the real world, something tends to happen: they lose their identity. A curtain wall unit that was `CW-0437` in the model becomes "the one on the second pallet" on site. Multiply that across thousands of assets, multiple countries, and a supply chain that doesn't pause for confusion — and you have a problem that no amount of spreadsheets can solve.
Geometrid starts there. Geometry plus identity. The premise is simple: if every geometrical object carries a prescribed identity that follows it from design and fabrication through shipping and installation through operations and maintenance, you don't just track assets — you see your project. That's the first layer of the name.
The second one involves a moth.
A team of engineers working on the Mark II computer found a moth wedged into Relay #70, Panel F. It was causing the system to malfunction. They extracted it, taped it into the log book, and wrote: "First actual case of a bug being found."
It became the most famous bug in computing history. And that moth — we'd like to think — was a geometrid.
Geometrid moths are one of the largest families of Lepidoptera. They're named for the way their larvae move: measuring the earth, one small precise step at a time. Geometra. Earth-measurer.
We liked that. But what we liked more was what the moth actually did.

That moth didn't break the Mark II. It revealed a vulnerability that was already there — exposed relay contacts that couldn't keep an insect out.
There's a version of this that plays out on every construction project. The problems that sink schedules and budgets aren't the ones that announce themselves early. They're the ones that stay hidden — buried in disconnected spreadsheets, trapped in someone's inbox, invisible until it's too late and too expensive to fix.
The projects that go smoothest aren't the ones with zero problems. They're the ones where problems surface early and get resolved fast. Resolving imperfections iteratively is what leads to perfection ultimately. That's the philosophy we built Geometrid on.
We didn't name ourselves after a moth to be clever. We named ourselves after the thing that finds the flaw — because in our world, early visibility isn't a nice-to-have, it's the difference between a controlled fix and an uncontrolled disaster. If that moth hadn't found its way into Relay #70, maybe those engineers would never have rethought their design.
Maybe our computers would still have exposed light bulbs.
